Canvey Islanders Have your Say! On Flooding and Boundary Changes-But Time is Running Out!

Two important Surveys concerning Canvey Island residents are underway.

If you were affected in the slightest way by the rainstorm events of 2013 and 2014 you need to take part in the first Survey, so as to inform Essex County Council of the problems and issues facing Canvey residents.

The is an important survey on Flooding. This survey is intended to inform how Essex County Council can best provide you with the information you need to protect yourself and your home. It will also help them understand how you have experienced flooding in the last five years and your preparedness for possible future flood events.

We wonder why more information is required when already there has been an enquiry culminating in the Government Office of Science Review and a cpbc Scrutiny Review into the 2014 event.

However the more facts that are in the system, especially those that give an insight into how specifically residents were affected, the better.

To take part in this simple survey follow this LINK.

Be aware that the survey closes This Sunday, the 9th October.

Canvey Island residents are also invited to take part in another survey on;

Constituency Boundary Changes.

We propose transferring the two (Borough of Basildon) wards of Pitsea North West and Pitsea South East to the Castle Point constituency. In turn, we propose to transfer from the latter constituency two (Borough of Castle Point) wards to the Southend West constituency. Additionally we propose to transfer the Ashingdon and Canewdon ward (from the District of Rochford) into the Rochford and Southend East constituency. All these changes to the constituencies of Basildon and Billericay, Castle Point, Rochford and Southend East, South Basildon and East Thurrock, and Southend West result from each of these constituencies currently being outside 5% of the electoral quota, and from the fact that the total allocation of constituencies in Essex has been reduced by one.

Canvey Islanders, Have Your Say on the proposed constituency changes that will see Hadleigh ditched from Castle Point, and Pitsea, North West and South East joining us.

  1. Are the boundary changes not just related to parliamentary boundaries? i.e. only relate to whom the MP will be but will have no impact on which borough one belongs to?

    • It appears that that is the case Stan.
      The accompanying document indicates;
      9. Castle Point BC 75,130 Pitsea North West Basildon 8,900
      Pitsea South East Basildon 8,469
      Appleton Castle Point 5,311
      And so on.
